Structural reliability under uncertainty in moments: distributionally-robust reliability-based design optimization

Abstract This study considers structural optimization under a reliability constraint, in which the input distribution is only partially known. Specifically, when it known that expected value vector and variance-covariance matrix of belong to given convex set, required failure probability structure should be no greater than specified target for any realization distribution. We demonstrate this distributionally-robust constraint can reduced equivalently deterministic constraints. By using reduction, we handle reliability-based design problem within framework optimization; particular, nonlinear semidefinite programming. Two numerical examples are solved relation between optimal either or uncertainty magnitude.
